Have you ever left a tube of lipstick in a hot car? You probably know what a mess it can be when you open the container and your lipstick has the consistency of honey. Unfortunately, the same thing can happen to make up on your face. This means applying summer make up can be more of a challenge! Your make up is going to more prone to smearing and fading when it comes into contact with the hot, humid conditions most of us are exposed to in the summer. Fortunately, there are some steps you can take to keep your make up looking fresh and natural all summer long. Here are some suggestions:
1. Use sunscreen first!
This is not only for protection of your skin, but some people say it can help to prolong the life of your foundation in the heat. Nevertheless, this should be the mainstay of your summer regimen. Who wants to age prematurely or develop skin cancer?
2. Choose a lighter, oil free foundation.
Lighter foundations tend to hold up better during hot weather, especially if they're oil free. Avoid creamy,  heavy foundations with matte coverage. You might consider skipping foundation entirely and applying a dusting of loose powder for shine control and a touch of color.
3. Use a facial self tanner in place of foundation
There are a variety of self tanners designed specifically for the face that give a soft bronze glow. Once applied, they shouldn't be affected by the heat or humidity and can give you a believable bronze glow.
4. Wear waterproof mascara if you wear any at all.
The heat and humidity can wreak havoc with your eye makeup. Waterproof mascara is a necessity in a warm climate.
5. Keep the lower lashes free of make up.
Don't apply eye make up to the lower eyelashes. When the heat and humidity cause you to sweat, these areas will run very quickly.
6. Replace your regular lipstick with a light lip balm.
Invest in a light lip balm with an SPF of at least 15 to protect your lips from the sun's harmful rays. Heavy lipstick tend to look artificial in the glaring summer sun.
7. Set your make up with a mist of water.
Try using a spray bottle to lightly spray your make up with a light mist of mineral water. This can help it to last longer throughout the day.
8. Consider going natural!
You'll probably feel and look better this summer if you lighten up on the make up and go natural during the day. If you don't feel comfortable going completely without make up, go for the minimum amount that works for you.
Hopefully, this will help you keep your summer make up fresh so you can enjoy the rest of your summertime activities and still look great!
